October 1

The day we land, Kraków starts its academic year.

Kraków is one of the biggest student cities in Europe: roughly 150,000 students, about one in five people in town. And on October 1 the Polish academic year opens. The whole city comes back from summer break just as we get off the plane.

Freshers' week is the week the bars and clubs fight for everyone's attention: opening nights, packed streets, and Kazimierz, the district that is basically all bars. A city at its best.

And we are not winging it: there is a plan for every evening, entries sorted in advance, and your group is with you from the first moment.

Late start. An easy brunch, vintage shops in Kazimierz, time to yourself. And at night, the main party of the trip.

Warsaw: shopping, suitcase, flight home

Fast train to Warsaw (two hours twenty), the biggest mall in Poland, and a flight home in the evening. You land, you sleep, and tomorrow you tell everyone.

Hold on, how does a hotel like that fit a price like this?

Two reasons, and both of them are boring. One: the booking is a group booking running on Shay's Marriott status, so the terms are nothing like what you get booking alone on the website. Two: Spontanim trips go out at cost. Shay does not make money on the trip itself, he is building a community that travels together. That is the model, and that is the whole secret. If you booked that same room yourself for these dates, half a room would run you somewhere around ₪750-900 for three nights.

Practically, it means you open the evening in the lounge before you head out, and close it there when you get back. It's in because we book as a group. There's no trick here.

Sunday

The last day isn't a travel day, it's a shopping day.

In the morning we get on a fast train to Warsaw, two hours twenty of scenery and podcasts. And from there straight to Westfield Arkadia, the biggest mall in Poland: 240 shops, Zara and Sephora and Victoria's Secret and brands you cannot get in Israel, at Polish prices.

That is the trick in the route: instead of doubling back the same way, you get both Kraków and Warsaw in one trip. The flight home leaves Warsaw in the evening, lands at night, and it is straight to bed.

Advice from someone who has watched this happen a few times: leave room in the suitcase.
